Where Good Takes Shape: Reflections From the Skoll World Forum

Written by Evan Cauble Johnson

I’m writing from the Skoll World Forum in Oxford, where I’ve spent the past few days surrounded by some of the most committed, thoughtful, and determined changemakers in the world. It’s an extraordinary gathering, but I’ll be honest, I arrived carrying a heavy sense of the moment we’re living in.

Across the globe, we are facing deeply challenging times. Ongoing wars, persistent human rights abuses, and political uncertainty, particularly in the United States, create a constant undercurrent of anxiety. For those of us working in international development, these realities are not abstract; they shape the environments our partners and entrepreneurs navigate every day.

And yet, being here has reminded me of something powerful: when you step into a space filled with people who are actively working toward solutions, who are grounded in purpose and driven by hope, something shifts.

Image-2I’ve had the privilege of connecting with so many of Street Business School’s partners here. I’ve met leaders who are empowering women, strengthening communities, and proving that sustainable change is not only possible, it’s already happening. Seeing them in person, hearing their stories firsthand, and witnessing the depth of their commitment has been both humbling and energizing.

There is a kind of clarity that comes from these moments of connection. It cuts through the noise and reminds you that while the challenges we face are real and significant, they are being met every day by people of courage, creativity, and compassion.

In spaces like this, it becomes unmistakably clear: good is not passive. It is active, persistent, and deeply rooted in human connection. And when we come together, even briefly, we strengthen it.

As I reflect on these days in Oxford, I find myself feeling something that can be hard to access from afar, a genuine sense that the good in the world outweighs the darkness.

To our donors and supporters, I wish you could feel what I’m feeling here. You are a part of it. Your belief in this work, and in the people who carry it forward, is part of this collective force for good.

I hope you feel that same connection, to possibility, to purpose, and to the enduring light that continues to guide this work forward.
