SBS Celebrated #BreakTheBias for International Women’s Day

Conversations around gender inequality and gender bias have fueled the important work of Street Business School and the global SBS network of partners, supporters and graduates. International Women’s Day 2022 (IWD) had a primary goal of breaking gender stereotypes by shining light on those who overcome bias. “Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”

Staff Celebrating International Women’s Day 2022

IWD is a national holiday in Uganda, where SBS is headquartered, and SBS advocates around the world joined the conversation.

On March 8, 2022, our staff provided their own #breakthebias stories and hosted a live panel discussion for this year’s theme! Our panel was made up of a range of departmental staff, including women and men. Reflections included the appreciation of generations of strong women within our childhoods and empowering their presence within a variety of roles in our lives. Watch the recording on the Street Business School Facebook page and be sure to follow us, as the conversation continues well beyond International Women’s Day.

Coaches Celebrating IWD and Graduation

SBS Uganda’s most recent CHECHE training ended just as IWD was underway. The cohort’s graduates reflected on the #breakthebias theme as they begin their journey into entrepreneurship. We are grateful for the support that we received from Uganda’s Police Force, made up of women and men, during the graduation ceremony. The officers joined the celebration!

“Street Business School has seen again and again that when women have the opportunity to start a small business, that the money they earn creates transformation in their confidence, the opportunities their children have and the gender dynamics in the household. Please join us as we work every day, all year long, to break the bias, shift power dynamics and create a more equitable world for all.” – Devin Hibbard, CEO
